About Underground Mining

Underground mining is a complicated and challenging process involving specialized equipment to aid in collecting precious minerals and commodities from under the earth’s surface. It is minerals including coal, precious metals, and industrial minerals which are often extracted. This can be carried out by using a number of underground machines, such as drills, loaders, conveyors, and haul trucks. These machines are the standard underground mining machines often required, as are specialist devices such as longwall mining machines and continuous miners.

Underground mining methods include blast mining, room and pillar mining, block caving, retreat mining, drift and fill mining, cut and fill mining, longwall mining, shrinkage stope mining, and sublevel caving. Room and pillar mining involves creating rectangular pillars that bear the weight of the ceiling whilst miners extract minerals from the area around the pillars. Specialized machinery often performs this step, removing the pillars from the room and pillar mining is known as retreat mining. This method tactically removes the pillars, allowing the remaining ore to be extracted from the mine. The mine will then collapse in on itself as the pillars are removed. Explosives can often be required in blast mining to remove difficult rock layers, loosen rocks, and open up underground mining sites. Onto the equipment…

Underground Mining Equipment

The heavy equipment required to collect minerals and other resources from beneath the earth’s surface is known as underground mining machinery. This may include crane lifts, continuous miners, drones, jumbo drills, longwall mining equipment loaders and haulers, personnel vehicles, rock dusters, refuge chambers, roof bolters, shotcrete machines, scoops, shuttle cars, underground trains, and ventilation systems. They are all examples of tools that can be found on-site during mining projects.

Underground Rock Drills

Underground rock drills are used to blast holes and excavate in mining infrastructure projects. At Omnia Machinery we stock underground rock drills that can help your underground mining projects run smoothly and more efficiently.

Numerous types of rock drilling machines are used in underground projects, each has its own distinctive features and advantages. The most popular kind of drills used in underground mining are jumbo drills and long-hole drills.

Underground Excavators

Underground excavators are used for tunneling, digging trenches and excavating mines. Suction excavators are perfect for sensitive underground projects, because of their ability to reduce the likelihood of damage by over 50 percent. At Omnia, we offer some of the leading manufacturers including Caterpillar and Terex Schaeff.

Underground Dumpers

Underground dumpers are designed for low-cost, high-production use in mining projects and offer heavy load hauling to make construction easier and more efficient. These machines are designed to run long operating hours and can be used in both hard-rock and soft-rock underground mining construction.

Underground Loaders

Underground loaders are mining vehicles, designed with safety and reliability in mind. These machines are compact, yet powerful to navigate the toughest underground construction projects. These machines increase production, reduce transportation costs and carry payloads of 30 to 55 tons and above. Underground dump trucks are often required for hard rock and soft rock underground mining and tunnel construction.

Omnia Machinery offer a wide variety of quality used mining equipment suitable for numerous construction projects such as: Underground Trucks, Underground Excavators, Underground Loaders, Underground Rock Drills and Underground Dumpers. All of the machines that we stock come from reputable manufacturers including CaterpillarAtlas Copco and Sandvik – giving you confidence that you will find a machine suited to your project specifications.
