What is a Crusher?
Long story short a crusher is a piece of equipment that reduces large rocks into smaller rocks, gravel, or rock dust. These machines are mainly required in the mining and construction industries, where they work to break down sizable rocks and boulders. Crushers can also often be used for jobs like breaking up asphalt for roadwork or demolition projects. These machines are available in a variety of sizes and capacities, ranging from compact jaw crushers to massive cone crushers that can cost millions of dollars. It is important that with all the choice, you make sure that the one you invest in has the power and capabilities required for your job. Having a crusher in your fleet can save a substantial amount of time and labour as you won’t have to do so much manually. This makes them an invaluable asset for anyone who may need to crush materials quickly and efficiently.
- Overall Check Ups Before Operating
Check the Air Filter: Gently blow out the air filter or tap it lightly to remove any dust. If the dust gets beyond the primary air filter, then change the air filter and safety cartridge as soon as possible.
Check Fluids and Top Up if Needed: the fluid levels are super important in any piece of equipment and the main ones to check on a crusher would be the oil level, coolant level, hydraulic level, and the fuel & DEF level. If they are too low, then top up.
Check Impact Crusher: to do this before opening the crusher box, activate the RM Release System manually to loosen packed dirt and make sure that the impact wall swings freely. Examine for wear and damage and replace any worn parts if required. Before closing, ensure the edge crusher housing is clean so that metal hits metal upon closing the impact crusher box. If you need to, readjust your closed side setting, and verify that the crusher housing is locked properly. Then finally be sure to check if the rotor moves freely by turning the pulley
- Clean Your Screens
Remove any pegging or blinding material from the pre-screen to ensure smooth material bypass. Additionally, clean the screen attachment thoroughly. Instead of lowering the screen deck, consider folding the main conveyor over 90° to provide better access to the screen deck.
- Fix Conveyor Belt Damages
When a rubber conveyor belt surpasses its service life, it tends to weaken and show signs of wear and deterioration. If you believe replacement is not yet necessary, a general rule of thumb is to assess the extent of the damage. Repairs are usually practical if the damage affects no more than 25% of the belt’s width. However, if more than 25% of the width is compromised, opting for a saddle section insertion or a complete replacement is recommended.
That said, while repairing the belt might address the immediate issue, it is not always the best long-term solution. In some cases, a full replacement can help avoid more significant complications down the road.
- Overall Visual Inspection
Inspect for visible damage and ensure all parts are present. Examine the ROSTA torsion elements for dust accumulation and clean as necessary. Look for hydraulic leaks. Verify the battery level and charge the remote control if required.
